Muchera's patent pending Men's and Women's baseball and softball Sliding Pants are a 3/4 length, all-in-one, compression fit undergarment with moisture wicking abilities designed to protect athletes from abrasions when sliding and diving. The initial concept for sliding pants originated in 2001 during a late night men's softball game in Peekskill, NY. After sliding in to second base safely stretching a single into a double, my knee pad slid down my leg as I was running and folded over as I slid into second base. Since I'm not a pro athlete, I probably don't have the best sliding technique to begin with. Combine that with a town that didn't rake the field before the game and the result is a nice roundish 4"x 3" strawberry just below my left knee cap stretching down to my upper shin. Blood dripping down my leg, this bad boy must have taken almost a month to heel. Unfortunately, I can't remember if I scored after that hit or not.
Anyway, that's when I came up with the concept and design for sliding pants. I wanted to find a way to protect my knees without all of the bulk (shorts or baseball pants, compression sliding shorts, athletic supporter and strap, knee pads, and of course my base layer underwear). Thats 5 layers of gear on the lower half of my body. There must be a way to get that down to three layers.
I'm one of those guys that won't wear baseball pants in a softball game (nothing wrong with that), but I feel more comfortable and free moving playing in shorts which makes knee pads an absolute necessity for my particular style of play. Without knee pads, I'm hesitant to slide at all based on the strawberry I described above. Almost 13 years later, the concept is now a reality as we've created an incredible and truly tested pair of baseball and/or softball sliding pants.
